UPDATE: The Israeli government confirms that all 20 living hostages held in Gaza are expected to be released on Monday morning. This significant development could mark a crucial step toward ending the ongoing conflict that has devastated the region for nearly two years.

Israeli officials are preparing for this anticipated release, which includes plans for the return of approximately 2,000 Palestinian detainees. Government spokesperson Shosh Bedrosian stated, “We are expecting all 20 of our living hostages to be released together at one time to the Red Cross and transported among six to eight vehicles.” The hostages will initially be taken to a military base, where they will reunite with family members or receive medical care if necessary.

In a related statement, a Hamas official revealed that living hostages have already been gathered in Gaza, and the militant group is set to meet with the Red Cross on Sunday night to finalize the logistics of their release. While the militant group holds a total of 48 hostages, the focus is primarily on the release of the 20 believed to be alive.

Following the return of Israeli hostages, Israel will release nearly 2,000 Palestinian detainees, most of whom will be sent back to Gaza or exiled to neighboring countries. However, several prominent figures, including detained doctors Hussam Abu Safiya and Marwan al-Hams, as well as political leader Marwan Barghouti, are notably absent from the list for release, as Hamas continues negotiations with Israeli officials.

The hostage swap is part of a broader ceasefire deal initiated by U.S. President Donald Trump. Since the ceasefire took effect on Friday afternoon, both sides are hopeful for a lasting resolution to the conflict. Trump is scheduled to visit Jerusalem on Monday to address the Knesset and meet with families of the hostages before heading to Sharm el-Sheikh in Egypt for a peace summit with leaders from over 20 countries.

Despite the progress, the situation remains tense, with reports indicating that the conflict has resulted in over 67,000 Palestinian deaths and approximately 170,000 injuries. International human rights organizations have called attention to the humanitarian crisis, with accusations of genocide against Israel coming from a UN commission of inquiry.

As the world watches closely, the focus now shifts to the release of hostages and the potential for a permanent ceasefire. The upcoming hours are critical as both sides navigate the complexities of negotiations and the urgent need for peace. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
