Applications Open NOW for Community Climate Action Funding Grants
UPDATE: Applications for the highly anticipated Community Climate Action Funding Programme are officially open as of October 28, 2025. This urgent initiative aims to foster low-carbon, sustainable communities, significantly boosting efforts to meet national climate and energy targets.
Community groups and clubs across the region can now apply for grants ranging from €20,000 to €100,000. This funding is essential for projects that will create a tangible impact on local environments, enhancing both community resilience and sustainability.
The funding is categorized into three distinct scales: small (under €20,000), medium (€20,000 to €50,000), and large (€50,000 to €100,000). Interested parties are encouraged to visit the Donegal County Council’s website for additional details.
The programme features five key themes, each designed to inspire innovative projects that address pressing climate issues:
1. **Community & Energy**: Projects like retrofitting community buildings, installing solar PV systems, and improving energy efficiency through smart controls.
2. **Sustainable Travel**: Initiatives such as electric vehicle charging points and enhanced bike access to promote greener commuting options.
3. **Food and Waste**: Establishing community gardens, food banks, and allotments to support local food production and reduction of waste.
4. **Shopping and Recycling**: Fostering community repair hubs, upcycling ventures, and eliminating single-use plastics through creative solutions.
5. **Local Climate and Environmental Action**: Implementing nature-based solutions, mini forests, and pollinator projects to enhance local ecosystems.
In a statement, officials emphasized the importance of community engagement in achieving sustainability goals:
“This funding is vital for empowering local initiatives that contribute to a healthier planet,”
they said.
The implications of this funding initiative are profound, as it not only supports environmental projects but also strengthens community ties and promotes a culture of sustainability.
As applications are now live, community leaders and organizations must act quickly to secure funding for their transformative projects. The deadline for submissions is approaching fast, making this an urgent call to action for all eligible groups.
Stay tuned for further updates as the Community Climate Action Funding Programme unfolds, and remember to spread the word so that communities can harness this opportunity for a sustainable future.
