URGENT UPDATE: Met Eireann has just announced that an arctic airmass is poised to hit Ireland, bringing extreme cold, frost, and potential snow across the nation. Starting as early as November 17, temperatures are expected to plummet to as low as -3°C, with widespread frost and icy conditions anticipated.

This significant weather change will lead to a mix of dry and bright conditions, but also scattered showers that could fall as sleet and hail, particularly in northern regions. Residents are urged to prepare for challenging conditions as winter sets in.

Over the coming days, areas like Ulster, Connacht, and parts of Munster will experience the brunt of the wintry weather. The forecast indicates that while some regions will enjoy clear spells, others will face heavy showers, particularly on November 18. These showers will be accompanied by a brisk wind, making it feel even colder.

By November 19, a cold day is expected, with the potential for snow accumulation in higher ground areas of the north and northwest. Met Eireann warns that temperatures will hover between 4°C to 7°C, but wind chill will make it feel significantly colder.

Thursday, November 20, is projected to bring a mix of sunny spells and isolated wintry showers, with temperatures ranging from -3°C to 2°C. A widespread frost is likely, especially overnight.

As the weekend approaches, the forecast suggests a shift with milder temperatures expected on November 21, but rain is set to spread from the northwest as southerly winds bring in warmer air. Highest temperatures could reach between 6°C to 11°C, but conditions will remain mixed with potential for heavy showers.

Residents are advised to stay informed of the latest weather updates as these conditions develop. Met Eireann continues to monitor the situation closely and will provide updates as necessary.

Prepare for icy roads and possible travel disruptions as the arctic air grips Ireland. Stay safe and be vigilant during this wintry weather event.
