Artist Transforms Storm Éowyn’s Fallen Trees into Enchanted Sculptures
URGENT UPDATE: In a remarkable transformation, chainsaw artist Will Fogarty has turned the destruction caused by Storm Éowyn into a magical experience at Barna Woods. Visitors can now explore the woods, where nearly 100 trees were felled in January 2023, and enjoy stunning wooden sculptures representing local wildlife, including a Wizened Tree Spirit, a Fairy House, an Owl, an Eagle, and an Otter.
This initiative, supported by Galway City Council and funded by Creative Ireland, aims to create an enchanted route through the woods, enhancing the natural beauty while honoring the fallen trees. The project not only beautifies the area but also provides new seating areas for visitors to rest and immerse themselves in the forest’s magic.
Barna Woods had been closed following the storm’s devastation, leaving the community eager for a revival. Fogarty has expressed his excitement about the project, stating, “It’s incredible to see nature’s loss transformed into something beautiful that brings joy to the community.”
As of now, the sculptures are attracting a wave of visitors, eager to witness the creative repurposing of the storm’s aftermath. The project emphasizes sustainability and artistic expression, offering a unique blend of art and nature that is sure to resonate with locals and tourists alike.
This artistic endeavor is gaining momentum, and community members are encouraged to share their experiences and photos on social media, spreading the word about the enchanting sculptures in Barna Woods. Stay tuned for more updates as the project continues to evolve and inspire.
