Athenry Teen’s Stunning Crafts to Shine at Local Gift Fair
UPDATE: A talented 17-year-old student from Athenry is set to showcase his remarkable festive creations at the Local Food and Craft Gift Fair this weekend. Cormac Monahan will exhibit his handcrafted Christmas gifts and garden furniture at the Black Box Theatre on December 1 and 2, 2024, drawing attention from holiday shoppers eager for unique items.
This year’s fair promises a spectacular array of products, and Cormac’s stall, Esker Timber Creations, will feature everything from charming Santa figures to custom garden planters. “I have all sorts of Christmas pieces ready for the Fair, some for indoors and others that have been developed to withstand the elements,” Cormac stated, emphasizing the quality and creativity behind each item.
Cork Monahan’s journey began in his Junior Cert year when he crafted a garden planter for his grandmother using discarded pallets. This initiative sparked a passion for woodworking that led him to establish his business in 2023. With guidance from his Business Studies teachers, Monica Moroney and Margaret Brennan, and support from LEO Galway, he triumphed at the National Student Enterprise Programme 2024, winning both the Sustainability Award and the Overall Intermediate Award.
Cork’s creations go beyond standard offerings, as he specializes in bespoke designs tailored to clients’ requests. “I always wanted to make sure my offering was different – something you couldn’t just pick up in a regular store,” he explained. His diverse range of items has expanded to include themed planters and fun outdoor furniture for children.
The Local Food and Craft Gift Fair will run for six days, starting on November 27 and ending on December 2. To facilitate visitor attendance, LEO Galway is providing 14 free bus routes from various towns across Galway. Shoppers are urged to book their seats early by calling 091 509 090 or visiting www.localenterprise.ie/Galway/ to secure their spot.
This fair is not just about shopping; it’s a celebration of local talent and creativity, exemplified by young entrepreneurs like Cormac. His drive and innovative spirit are inspiring, reminding us of the impact of supporting local businesses during the festive season.
With his extensive selection of Christmas crafts and garden planters, Cormac is ready to engage with customers and discuss custom orders. Don’t miss the chance to discover his delightful creations at the Black Box Theatre – the holiday shopping experience of the year awaits!
