ATU Welcomes Nearly 5,000 First-Year Students at Induction 2025

URGENT UPDATE: Atlantic Technological University (ATU) has just welcomed nearly 5,000 new first-year students as part of its Induction 2025, marking a significant 5% increase in enrollment compared to last year. This surge brings ATU’s total student population to over 30,000 learners, solidifying its status as one of the largest universities in Ireland and the largest outside of Dublin.
The induction took place last week across ATU’s nine campuses, which span from Donegal to Galway. This development highlights the growing demand for ATU’s diverse programs, showcasing the institution’s crucial role in enhancing educational opportunities and fostering regional growth in the west and northwest of Ireland.
New students participated in a comprehensive program of induction events, designed to introduce them to ATU’s extensive range of supports, clubs, and societies. This initiative is vital for easing their transition into university life. ATU President, Dr. Orla Flynn, stated, “Almost 5,000 first-year students are beginning their higher education journey with ATU this year. The continued growth in demand for our programmes highlights the role ATU plays in providing opportunities and meeting the skills needs of the west and northwest.”
Dr. Flynn emphasized that the increasing popularity of ATU reflects students’ confidence in the quality of its programs and strong industry connections. She noted, “More students are selecting ATU as their first preference, recognizing the quality of our programmes, our strong industry links, and the opportunities a university of our scale provides.”
In line with this commitment to student success, Dr. Billy Bennett, ATU Registrar and Chief Academic Officer, remarked, “Induction is key for students as they begin to find their place in the university. Our priority is to help them feel connected from the outset and to provide the structures that enable them to thrive both academically and personally.”
The induction process will continue over the next five weeks, featuring sessions focused on health and wellbeing, inclusivity, and fostering a strong sense of community across ATU’s campuses. This ongoing support is critical, as the transition to higher education can be a daunting experience for many students.
ATU’s expansion and the influx of new students is a clear indicator of its ambitious vision and the trust placed in it by prospective learners. The university is committed to ensuring every student has the best possible start and is ready to support them on their educational journey.
As the new academic year unfolds, the impact of these changes will be closely monitored, with many looking forward to the positive contributions these students will make to their communities and the wider region.
Stay tuned for more updates as Induction 2025 progresses and as ATU continues to welcome new opportunities for growth and learning.
