Ballymaguire Foods Halts Production Amid Listeriosis Outbreak
UPDATE: Ballymaguire Foods has suspended production at its facility following the tragic news of a death linked to a widespread Listeriosis outbreak. Just days ago, the Food Safety Authority of Ireland issued a recall of over 200 food products due to fears of contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. Currently, there are nine confirmed cases of Listeriosis across Ireland.
In a statement released today, July 24, 2023, Ballymaguire Foods expressed deep concern for those affected, acknowledging the anxiety this situation has caused. The company emphasized that protecting customers is their top priority, stating, “We recognize the trust placed in us by consumers and are committed to doing everything necessary to responsibly and transparently address this.”
As part of their urgent response, Ballymaguire Foods has appointed Dr. Patrick Wall, former Chief Executive of the Food Safety Authority of Ireland, to lead a specialized response team. Dr. Wall and his team will oversee a comprehensive review of the situation, ensuring all necessary safety procedures are implemented before production can resume.
Ballymaguire Foods confirmed that all affected products have been withdrawn from sale, and they are providing clear consumer information through retail partners. “Our priority has been a swift, responsible, health-led response and remains so,” the company stated. The facility will only reopen once authorities are satisfied with the safety measures implemented.
In their statement, Ballymaguire Foods reassured the public, saying, “Incidents of this nature are exceptionally rare, and we are treating this with the utmost seriousness.” They are fully collaborating with public health authorities to ensure a thorough resolution to this urgent health matter.
For those affected or with inquiries regarding the recall, Ballymaguire Foods is directing customers to contact the Food Safety Authority of Ireland at [email protected].
As this story develops, it highlights the critical importance of food safety and the immediate impact on consumer trust in food production. Stay tuned for more updates as authorities continue to investigate this outbreak.
