The beloved judge from Providence, Rhode Island, succumbed to pancreatic cancer on Wednesday night, following a long and courageous battle. His family confirmed the heartbreaking news through a heartfelt statement shared on his official Instagram page.
Judge Caprio’s compassion and humanity had endeared him to millions around the globe. His family expressed that he was “beloved for his deep compassion, humility, and unwavering faith in the goodness of people.” They highlighted his warmth and humor, stating, “He will be remembered not only as a respected judge, but as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.”

In one notable case, he dismissed a traffic fine for a bartender earning less than $4 an hour after hearing their story. In another instance, he dismissed $400 in fines for a woman grieving the loss of her son.
