Bob Vylan Invites Councillor to Dublin Gig After Legal Challenge Dropped
UPDATE: PUNK-RAP duo Bob Vylan has confirmed that Independent Ireland councillor Linda de Courcy will be “on the guest list” for their highly anticipated gig at Vicar Street in Dublin next week, following the abrupt withdrawal of her legal challenge. This development comes after a judge granted Vicar Street its dance license, which had faced objections from de Courcy.
The legal challenge was dismissed after de Courcy failed to attend the court proceedings on October 2. She had previously expressed serious concerns regarding Bob Vylan’s scheduled performance during a hearing on September 29, stating that party TD Ken O’Flynn had written to the venue, but received no response. O’Flynn did not attend the court to support de Courcy’s objection.
During yesterday’s hearing, a legal representative for Vicar Street informed the judge that it appeared de Courcy had not shown up, leading to the successful granting of the venue’s license. Responding to the news, Bobby Vylan took to social media to express his thoughts: “What a waste of time. [Linda de Courcy] didn’t even show up to the proceedings that she brought about. No hard feelings though, your name will be on the guest list +1, bring Ken [O’Flynn]. You two can enjoy yourselves.”
Following the initial court sessions, Micheal Collins, leader of Independent Ireland, expressed dissatisfaction with de Courcy’s actions. He stated he had only learned about the legal challenge the day before and emphasized that it did not represent the party’s stance. O’Flynn, while disagreeing with Bob Vylan’s rhetoric, acknowledged their right to free speech, raising concerns mainly about the venue’s safety protocols.
The cancellation of the legal challenge clears the way for the duo’s performance, which promises to be a significant event for both fans and the artists. With the legal hurdles now resolved, anticipation is building among concertgoers eager to see Bob Vylan live.
This incident highlights the ongoing discussions surrounding art, expression, and public safety in the realm of live performances. As the gig approaches, all eyes will be on Vicar Street, making it a pivotal moment for both the venue and the artists involved.
Stay tuned for more updates as the concert date nears, and prepare for a night of electrifying punk-rap action!
