BREAKING: Gardai Seize 3 Guns, Heroin Near Limerick-Cork Border

URGENT UPDATE: In a significant operation late last night, August 20, 2023, Gardai seized three firearms, ammunition, and approximately €800 worth of suspected heroin following a traffic stop near the Limerick-Cork border. This operation underscores the ongoing efforts to combat organized crime in the region.
At around 11 PM, officers from the Charleville Garda Station intercepted a vehicle at a service station during routine patrols. During the search, they discovered the weapons and drugs, leading to the immediate arrest of two male occupants aged in their 30s and 40s. They were transported to a Garda station in County Cork, where they are currently detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939.
Authorities confirmed that follow-up searches at residential properties in County Cork today resulted in the recovery of additional ammunition. All firearms retrieved will undergo ballistic testing and forensic analysis to determine their origin and potential links to criminal activity. Meanwhile, the drugs will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland (FSI) for further examination.
This operation highlights the proactive measures being taken by law enforcement to enhance public safety and disrupt illegal activities in the area. The investigation is ongoing, with Gardai urging anyone with information related to the incident to come forward.
As the situation develops, residents in the Limerick and Cork regions are advised to remain vigilant. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
