BREAKING: In an urgent development, independent candidate Catherine Connolly has surged ahead in the Limerick City Presidential election, securing 17,659 votes. This commanding lead positions her to possibly become the 10th President of Ireland, with a strong likelihood of being elected on the first count.

Locally, Connolly outperformed Fine Gael’s Heather Humphreys, who garnered 7,797 votes, and Fianna Fail’s Jim Gavin, who received only 1,533 votes despite suspending his campaign earlier this month. The results reflect a 40.9% voter turnout, with 31,038 citizens participating in this pivotal election. However, 4,049 votes were deemed spoilt or invalid.

The vote counting occurred this morning at the Woodlands House Hotel in Adare, where officials began the process of verifying results. All figures will be submitted to Presidential returning officer Barry Ryan in Dublin for further calculation and verification.

If Connolly maintains her lead and surpasses 50% of the total votes, she will be declared the President of Ireland. The anticipation builds as the nation awaits the official announcement, highlighting the significance of this election for the future of Ireland.

As the situation unfolds, stay tuned for updates on Connolly’s path to potential presidency and the implications for Irish politics.
