Ciaran McGonagle Dominates Quadrathon Challenge in Inishowen
UPDATE: In an astounding display of athletic prowess, Ciaran McGonagle of Letterkenny AC has emerged victorious in the highly competitive Quadrathon Challenge, which concluded just hours ago in Inishowen, Ireland. This four-day endurance event, covering a staggering 105 miles along the breathtaking Wild Atlantic Way, has captivated runners and spectators alike.
McGonagle, showcasing remarkable stamina and speed, dominated each of the four marathon stages, starting with the Kinnagoe Marathon on Day 1, where he clocked an impressive 2:51:00. He quickly established a commanding lead that he never relinquished.
On Day 2, the Malin Head Marathon, McGonagle raised the bar even higher, finishing in a blistering 2:49:33—the fastest single-day time of the event. His prowess continued on Day 3 with the Mamore Marathon, where he maintained his momentum, completing the course in 2:58:45.
The final stretch, the Muff-Moville Marathon, saw McGonagle cross the finish line at 2:54:41, sealing his title with a total time of 11:33:59. This remarkable achievement not only underscores his extraordinary talent but also highlights the grueling nature of marathon racing over four consecutive days.
The impact of McGonagle’s victory reverberates throughout the athletics community, as this clean sweep positions him as a formidable contender in future events. His triumph represents a significant milestone for the Letterkenny AC club, emphasizing their strength in long-distance running.
Meanwhile, other members of Letterkenny AC were also making headlines. Stephen McAuley delivered a stellar performance at the Frank Duffy 10 Mile race held in Dublin’s Phoenix Park on August 16, 2025, securing third place in the men’s senior category with an impressive time of 50:55. McAuley’s consistency and strategic pacing demonstrate the depth of talent within the club.
In a separate event, Danny Mooney set a new course record at the Dromore 10K, finishing in 33:11 on the challenging terrain of County Tyrone on the same day. This remarkable feat comes amid concerns about the course’s notorious hills, showcasing Mooney’s resilience. He was closely followed by Eoghain McGinley, who finished second in 33:46.
As Letterkenny AC continues to shine, the club’s participation in various events reinforces its reputation as a cornerstone of the local running community.
