Community Mourns O’Connor Family at Urgent Funeral in Dundalk

UPDATE: The community of Dundalk is coming together this morning, October 7, 2025, to mourn the tragic loss of the O’Connor family at a joint funeral service held at St Patrick’s Church. Family members Mark (54), Louise (56), and their son Evan (27) were found deceased at their home last week, sending shockwaves through the local and national community.

Fr Gerry Campbell, the parish administrator for Louth, is leading the funeral Mass, supported by clergy from nearby parishes. The somber service reflects the deep impact this tragedy has had, as Fr Campbell noted during a candlelit vigil that the incident has “sent ripples of grief across our parish and across this land.”

In a poignant gesture, the O’Connor family has requested that mourners refrain from bringing flowers. Instead, they encourage donations to The Hub Praxis Care in Drogheda and Drogheda Abacas School, honoring Mark and Louise’s legacy of compassion and the inspiration that Evan brought to those around him.

Attendees have also been invited to wear odd socks in a tribute to one of Evan’s “individualistic traits,” adding a personal touch to the memorial. Tributes have poured in from the community, with staff at Praxis Care calling Evan “a bright shining star.” Meanwhile, Drogheda Abacas Special School fondly remembers Mark and Louise as “founder parents” and recognizes Evan as one of its first two pupils.

Following the Mass, a private cremation will take place. This heartbreaking event comes in the wake of the arrest of Robert O’Connor (31), who has been charged with three counts of murder. The court heard he has been under mental health care since age 22, and a request for a psychiatric assessment is pending.

As the community gathers to pay their respects, many are left grappling with the profound loss and seeking ways to remember this beloved family. The O’Connor family’s contributions to local initiatives and their loving spirit will not be forgotten.
