Community Rallies to Raise €250,000 for Cork Girl’s Recovery
URGENT UPDATE: A dedicated community in Beara, Cork, is rallying support for 12-year-old Féile O’Sullivan, who recently underwent a double leg amputation following a life-altering farm accident. Just days before her 13th birthday, Féile suffered severe injuries, changing her life in unimaginable ways.
Local officials confirm that the community has launched an urgent fundraising campaign to cover the significant costs of her ongoing medical care, rehabilitation, and necessary home adaptations. Currently, the GoFundMe page has raised €173,689, surpassing its initial target of €140,000, with aspirations to reach €250,000.
Féile’s tragic accident occurred over a month ago in the Beara area of West Cork, necessitating her emergency airlift to Cork University Hospital. There, she underwent multiple surgeries before being transferred to Dublin for further specialist treatment. Despite the grim circumstances, Féile has shown extraordinary strength throughout her ordeal, enduring around 15 surgeries.
Local Councillor Finbarr Harrington, a member of the fundraising committee, expressed the community’s unwavering support: “Féile is an incredibly strong girl, in every way. She might not have made it without that strength.” He emphasized the collective effort from various local groups, including GAA clubs, Beara United soccer club, and national organizations like Macra na Feirme, all uniting for Féile’s recovery.
As Féile faces a long road ahead filled with uncertainty, her community is committed to ensuring her family receives the necessary resources. Councillor Harrington calls for anyone able to assist, whether through donations or offering practical support like construction materials for home adaptations. “Her whole life changed in a split second. But she will have the support of the people here for the rest of her life,” he affirmed.
The fundraising page highlights Féile’s vibrant spirit, stating, “Anyone lucky enough to know Féile will tell you how full of life, energy, fun, kindness, and what a pure messer she is.” As the community continues to gather support, the hope is that Féile’s journey will inspire others and that her resilience will shine through the challenges ahead.
For those wishing to contribute, donations can be made through the active GoFundMe campaign, with the community rallying behind Féile and her family during this critical time. The outpouring of support serves as a testament to the strength of community bonds in times of crisis.
Stay tuned for further updates on Féile’s recovery and the ongoing fundraising efforts.
