Construction Commences on New Ambulance Base in Connemara

Construction has officially begun on the new ambulance base in Connemara, a project that has been in the works for approximately two decades. The Health Service Executive (HSE) announced plans for this facility in 2021, but progress has faced multiple delays since then. The new base will be established at the existing single-storey health centre located in Recess, Ireland.
The development will include two dedicated bays for ambulance parking, along with two additional car parking spaces. Local contractors have been engaged to carry out the construction, which is expected to take around six months to complete.
Community Impact and Local Support
The establishment of the ambulance base is a significant step for the local community, as emphasized by PJ Leavy from the Connemara Ambulance Crisis Group. In a recent conversation with Galway Bay FM, Leavy expressed that this project means a lot to residents, highlighting the importance of enhanced emergency services in the area.
Leavy noted that the new facility will improve response times and overall healthcare access for the community. The lack of a dedicated ambulance base has been a concern for many years, and local advocacy has played a crucial role in bringing this project to fruition.
As the construction progresses, community members are optimistic about the positive changes it will bring. The ambulance base is anticipated to serve not only Recess but also surrounding areas, improving emergency response capabilities in a region that has long faced challenges in accessing timely medical assistance.
With the groundwork now laid, the focus will shift to ensuring the project remains on track for its estimated completion. The community’s patience and advocacy over the years are being rewarded as they look forward to enhanced medical support in Connemara.
