Cork Community Raises €301,000 for 13-Year-Old After Amputation
URGENT UPDATE: A Cork community has raised over €301,000 in just one week to support 13-year-old Féile O’Sullivan, who underwent a double leg amputation following a tragic farm accident. The young girl was critically injured last month in an incident involving a tractor, suffering severe lower abdominal injuries that required immediate medical intervention at Cork University Hospital.
Féile’s condition was dire, and despite the odds, she has shown remarkable resilience during her recovery at a specialist unit in Dublin. Her community rallied together, launching a fundraising campaign that has stunned everyone involved. In the first 48 hours alone, donations exceeded €100,000. With the total currently at €301,000, the campaign aims to reach a target of €500,000 to cover future medical costs and necessary home adaptations.
Special vigils were held across west Cork, where friends and family prayed for Féile’s recovery. “Just before her 13th birthday, our amazing Féile was in a serious farm accident, changing her life in ways no child should ever have to face,” stated an appeal organizer. The community, including local organizations such as Garnish GAA, Allihies Hall, and Beara United, has come together to support Féile and her family during this challenging time.
Féile is known for her vibrant spirit and love for sports, animals, and the outdoors. “Anyone lucky enough to know Féile will tell you how full of life, energy, fun, kindness and what a pure messer she is,” the organizer added. Her passion for farming and nature has been a significant part of her life, and while the accident has changed her physically, her spirit remains unbroken.
The journey ahead for Féile will be long and arduous, filled with surgeries and rehabilitation. The community’s efforts are focused not only on immediate medical needs but also on helping her adapt to life after this life-altering event. “She will face many more surgeries and challenges, but we are determined to support her every step of the way,” the organizer emphasized.
The overwhelming response to the fundraising campaign illustrates the deep connections within the Beara community and their commitment to helping Féile and her family. As the appeal continues to gain momentum, it serves as a powerful reminder of the strength of community support in times of crisis.
Stay tuned for more updates on Féile’s recovery and the ongoing fundraising efforts that are making a vital difference in her life.
