Council Boosts Open Spaces Grant Funding by €14,000 in 2025

URGENT UPDATE: The Limerick Council has just announced a significant increase in funding for its Maintenance of Open Spaces Grant Scheme, surging by €14,000 to €55,226 in 2025. This funding is crucial for communities seeking to maintain and enhance their green spaces, promoting a healthier environment and community engagement.
As of now, 55 grants have been awarded this year, demonstrating the Council’s commitment to supporting local initiatives. Councillor Dan McSweeney raised the funding issue, prompting the detailed breakdown of allocations across various districts.
In the Metropolitan District, 17 community groups received an average grant of €1,034. Meanwhile, nine groups in Adare Rathkeale benefitted from an average of €1,069, 15 groups in Cappamore Kilmallock received an average of €1,010, and 13 groups in Newcastle West District saw an average allocation of €1,012.
This funding surge is essential as communities strive to preserve and improve green spaces, which have proven to enhance quality of life and foster community spirit. The increased financial support reflects a growing recognition of the importance of maintaining public areas for recreation and biodiversity.
