Donegal Farmers to Receive Urgent €2 Million Boost for Sheep Welfare
UPDATE: Donegal sheep farmers are set to receive a crucial funding boost of over €2 million as the Government launches the Sheep Improvement Scheme. This funding is designed to enhance animal health and welfare across the region, providing €12 per breeding ewe for improved welfare actions.
The announcement, made on November 25, 2025, marks a significant increase in support for farmers, as combined funding from this scheme and the 2025 National Sheep Welfare Scheme will total €23.50 per ewe. This is a strong rise from the rates offered in 2024, emphasizing the Government’s commitment to rural economies.
Minister of State Marian Harkin stated, “This scheme provides vital support to sheep enterprises and wider rural economies.” The funding not only aids farmers but also contributes to the sustainability of the agricultural sector in Donegal, impacting livelihoods and local communities.
Farmers are urged to take advantage of this funding opportunity to improve their operations and bolster the sheep industry in the area. With these developments, the local agricultural landscape is poised for a positive shift, benefiting both farmers and consumers alike.
As this situation evolves, stakeholders in the agricultural sector will be closely monitoring the implementation of the scheme and its effects on the local economy. Farmers are encouraged to stay informed about application processes and deadlines to maximize their benefits from this substantial funding initiative.
Stay tuned for more updates as the Government rolls out these critical support measures for Donegal’s agricultural community.
