Donegal Gardaí Urge Drivers to Stay Safe During Busy Holiday
URGENT UPDATE: Donegal Gardaí are intensifying their safety warnings for drivers as the Bank Holiday weekend continues, following multiple incidents on local roads. Authorities are urging road users to prioritize safety as they conduct high-visibility patrols across the region.
Earlier today, July 15, 2023, two individuals were hospitalized after a serious collision at the Kilross junction on the outskirts of Stranorlar. This incident follows another alarming event on Friday afternoon, when a woman in her 60s was arrested after crashing into another vehicle and damaging a wall in Ballybofey.
These incidents have prompted Gardaí to remind motorists of essential safety measures during this busy period. High-visibility checkpoints and patrols will continue throughout the holiday weekend to ensure compliance with traffic laws.
“We urge all road users to remain vigilant and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent unnecessary accidents,” stated a Gardaí spokesperson. “Driving under the influence, speeding, and distractions like mobile phones need to be avoided at all costs.”
Gardaí emphasize the following critical reminders for drivers:
- Do not drive while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
- Obey speed limits.
- Always wear your seatbelt.
- Keep your mobile phone out of reach while driving.
- Stay focused and avoid taking unnecessary risks on the roads.
The ongoing safety campaign is crucial as more people travel during this holiday, increasing the potential for accidents. Authorities are committed to protecting the community and ensuring safe travel for all.
As the Bank Holiday weekend continues, drivers are urged to remain cautious and make safe choices. Stay tuned for further updates from Gardaí as they monitor the situation closely.
