Donegal Sees Urgent Spike: 714 Water Outages Recorded in 2025

UPDATE: Donegal has just reported a staggering 714 water outages so far this year, making it the region with the fourth highest number of outages in all of Ireland. These alarming figures were disclosed to local representative Cllr Fionán Bradley yesterday, raising significant concerns for residents and businesses alike.
This urgent news follows a recent meeting with Uisce Éireann, where Cllr Bradley expressed disappointment at not receiving the figures during the discussion. With last year’s total reaching 1,670 outages, the ongoing disruptions are impacting daily life and the vital tourism industry in the area, particularly in Inishowen, which accounted for 28% of last year’s outages.
The implications of these outages are profound. Residents are facing constant interruptions to their water supply, which not only affects their daily routines but also poses a serious challenge for local businesses relying on stable water access. Cllr Bradley emphasized the economic strain, stating, “The knock-on effect of this has been felt in the area, especially by those working in the tourism industry.”
As residents grapple with this ongoing crisis, immediate action is needed from authorities to address the underlying issues causing these outages. Next steps include a push for enhanced infrastructure and timely communication on water supply status to prevent further disruptions.
Stay tuned for further updates as local officials continue to seek answers and solutions to this pressing problem. The situation is developing rapidly, and affected residents are urged to stay informed on the latest announcements.
