Dublin Fire Brigade Prepares for Busy Halloween Season
As Halloween approaches, the Dublin Fire Brigade is gearing up for what is expected to be another hectic season. Newly appointed Chief Fire Officer Greg O’Dwyer emphasized that the brigade is not aiming to spoil the festive spirit, despite the potential for chaos. Last year marked a significant increase in demand for their services, with the highest number of callouts in a decade.
The fire brigade has established a proactive approach to ensure public safety during Halloween festivities. O’Dwyer indicated that their preparations include heightened awareness and education about fire safety. “We’re not the fun police,” he stated, underscoring the importance of balancing safety with enjoyment for the community.
In 2022, the brigade responded to over 1,000 incidents related to Halloween, a number that officials are keen to reduce this year. Increased patrols and community engagement initiatives are part of their strategy to mitigate risks associated with fireworks and bonfires, which can pose significant dangers if not handled responsibly.
The fire brigade is also reminding the public to adhere to safety guidelines, particularly regarding the use of fireworks. “We want everyone to enjoy Halloween, but safety must come first,” O’Dwyer added. His statements reflect a commitment to maintaining public safety while encouraging responsible celebrations.
The Dublin Fire Brigade has partnered with local authorities to distribute safety tips and guidelines in advance of Halloween. These include recommendations on how to safely enjoy bonfires and fireworks, as well as advice on costume safety, especially for children.
As the brigade braces for another busy season, they remain focused on their core mission: protecting life and property. With October 31 approaching, O’Dwyer and his team are prepared to respond swiftly to emergencies, ensuring that the community can celebrate safely. The upcoming Halloween season serves as a reminder of the delicate balance between festive enjoyment and public safety, a challenge that the Dublin Fire Brigade is ready to face head-on.
