Dublin Fire Brigade Prepares for Hectic Halloween Night Ahead

UPDATE: Dublin Fire Brigade is gearing up for what could be one of their busiest nights of the year as Halloween approaches. With bonfire incidents expected to surge, officials are urging the public to prioritize safety while enjoying the festivities this October 31.
Dublin City Council has just announced vital safety guidelines aimed at preventing dangerous situations linked to illegal bonfires and fireworks. As the clock ticks down to Halloween, the message is clear: enjoy the holiday, but stay safe!
Officials emphasize that while bonfires are illegal, they are a common occurrence during Halloween. The council cautions that out-of-control bonfires can lead to serious accidents. Crews are prepared for a high volume of emergency calls related to bonfires and other Halloween-related incidents.
“Halloween is meant to be a spooky time of year, not a nightmare,” said a spokesperson from Dublin City Council. “Our firefighters and paramedics want you to have fun and stay safe, so heed these fire prevention and safety tips.”
Residents are encouraged to attend organized events where bonfires are constructed safely. Those considering attending a bonfire should be vigilant, as illegal bonfires often contain hazardous materials like car tires, aerosol cans, and plastics, which can release toxic smoke that poses serious health risks, especially for individuals with respiratory issues.
As a safety precaution, the council advises the public to maintain a significant distance from any bonfire. If you can feel heat emanating from the fire, you are too close. Costumes and clothing can easily catch fire, and bonfires built too high pose a risk of collapse.
Grass damaged by bonfires may leave sharp debris, presenting injury risks for children and pets. Fire experts warn against attempting to jump over or run through bonfires, as such actions can lead to severe injuries.
In addition, Dublin City Council is addressing the dangers of fireworks, which are illegal and often lead to serious injuries. The council has confirmed that using, selling, or supplying fireworks carries significant legal repercussions. Fireworks can cause traumatic injuries, including burns and, in some cases, amputations.
“Fireworks are essentially small explosives and can result in life-altering injuries,” warned a fire safety expert. “Consider the consequences before engaging with them.”
With Halloween night fast approaching, it is crucial for residents to consider the impact of loud noises on vulnerable populations, including the elderly and those with sensory sensitivities. The council advises keeping pets indoors, as many animals are frightened by fireworks and may attempt to escape.
As Dublin prepares for Halloween, the message is clear: enjoy responsibly and prioritize safety. Stay tuned for updates from Dublin Fire Brigade as they navigate what is expected to be a chaotic night filled with call-outs and incidents.
Be safe, and have a Happy Halloween!
