Dublin Lifeboat Crew Rescues Casualty from Cruise Ship Emergency

UPDATE: A heroic rescue operation unfolded late Saturday night as the Howth RNLI responded to a medical emergency aboard a cruise ship located 15 miles off the coast of north Dublin. The emergency call came in just after 10 PM, prompting the lifeboat crew to swiftly launch their all-weather vessel into treacherous conditions.
Battling rough seas and strong Force 8 northerly winds, the dedicated team of volunteers made the 50-minute journey to the distressed ship. In a statement shared on their Facebook page, Howth RNLI reported, “Our all-weather lifeboat launched with seven crew into rough seas, plotting a 50-minute passage to the ship.”
Upon arrival, the situation escalated as Rescue 116, the Coast Guard helicopter, joined the operation, successfully winching the casualty from the vessel. After the successful operation, the lifeboat stood down and returned to the station shortly after midnight, where they were washed down, refueled, and prepared for any potential follow-up calls.
Earlier in the week, the brave crew also responded to another urgent call when two fishing boats encountered difficulties near Howth Harbour. Just before 11 PM, both the all-weather lifeboat and the inshore lifeboat launched to assist. The crew worked diligently, with members boarding the towed vessel to ensure a safe tow back to the harbour wall.
The efforts of these “unsung heroes” have drawn widespread praise, with community members expressing their gratitude. One commenter lauded them, stating, “Well done unsung heroes,” while another added, “Stay safe all and keep up the good work.”
This series of late-night rescues highlights the commitment and bravery of the Howth RNLI crew, who remain ever ready to assist those in peril at sea. As they prepare for future emergencies, their dedication to saving lives continues to inspire the local community and beyond.
