URGENT UPDATE: A Dublin man has made headlines after an incredible foot race against a Route 16 Dublin Bus from O’Connell Street to Dublin Airport. Runner Daniel Toal, who documents his challenges on his YouTube channel, Craic & Kilometres, clocked in a time of 55:57, just seconds behind the bus’s 54:10 arrival.

Toal, 32, decided to test his speed against public transport after experiencing the bus’s slow crawl during a previous trip to the airport. “It took about an hour, and inside the crowded bus, it felt like double that time,” he told Dublin Live. His challenge was to run the exact same route, adhering to traffic signals, making the close finish even more impressive.

During the race, Toal encountered numerous traffic lights, which he later noted “kind of screwed me over.” His friend Niall, who was on the bus, provided live updates, adding to the tension of the race.

The race took place earlier this month, covering a distance of 11.3 km. Toal’s experience has sparked interest in racing against other forms of public transport; just a week later, he successfully raced a Luas tram, claiming victory without following strict rules. “I thought the Luas one was going to be harder, but I ended up overtaking another tram along the way,” he shared.

For Toal, the goal is more than just racing; he aims to inspire others to take up running. “I say the craic comes first and the kilometres afterwards,” he stated, emphasizing the fun in his challenges.

Looking ahead, Toal has set his sights on the upcoming Metrolink, joking that he may take it on when it is built in the next few decades. “I saw the Metrolink got approved recently. In the next 30 or 40 years, when I’m 60 or 70, I might try that!” he quipped.

This unique challenge not only showcases Toal’s athleticism but also highlights the ongoing conversation about public transport efficiency in Dublin. With his engaging content, Toal aims to entertain while encouraging fitness within the community.
