Dundalk Secures Promotion to Premier Division with 3-0 Victory
UPDATE: Dundalk FC has officially secured promotion to the Premier Division following a decisive 3-0 victory over Finn Harps at Oriel Park this evening. The win, witnessed by more than 3,000 eager fans, marks a significant achievement for the Lilywhites, who dominated the match from start to finish.
In a first half that ended without goals, the tide turned in the 54th minute when a defensive error from Finn Harps gifted Dundalk the opener. A mix-up between players Bradley-Walsh and Idir Zerrouk allowed Conor O’Keeffe to seize the opportunity and assist Gbemi Arubi, who slotted the ball into the net, making it 1-0.
Dundalk quickly doubled their lead just five minutes later. A handball by Finn Harps’ Conor Tourish inside the penalty area led to Daryl Horgan stepping up to take the penalty. Horgan’s shot found the back of the net, pushing the score to 2-0.
Finn Harps’ goalkeeper, Lorenzo Piaia, managed to deny Horgan a second penalty just moments later, showcasing a brief glimmer of hope for the Harps. However, Dundalk remained in complete control, and late in the match, Vinnie Leonard sealed the victory with a header deep into stoppage time, making it 3-0.
This victory not only celebrates Dundalk’s return to the Premier Division but also serves as a harsh lesson for a young Finn Harps side, who have faced numerous challenges throughout the season.
The match was officiated by referee Declan Toland from Roscommon, who had a pivotal role in the game with crucial calls that shaped the outcome.
