€80,000 Programme Launched in Glenties to Foster Community Connections
BREAKING: An €80,000 initiative, “Belonging Across Boundaries, Stories to Connect,” was launched today in Glenties, aimed at fostering community connections and embracing diversity. This program, supported by the Special EU Programmes Body and funded through Donegal County Council’s PEACEPLUS Local Co-Designed Action Plan, will run from October 2025 to September 2026.
The initiative is designed to recognize cultural and religious differences as strengths, promoting a positive intercultural future. It will feature a variety of activities, including storytelling workshops, panel discussions, and community-led events. These activities aim to spark empathy and encourage dialogue among diverse communities, which is especially crucial given the current socio-cultural climate.
Starting with 80 young participants from the Glenties Municipal District, the program will offer storytelling workshops focused on digital and verbal communication skills, including podcasting. A special emphasis will be placed on amplifying the voices of young immigrants and marginalized groups, ensuring their stories are heard and valued.
Additionally, an innovative component called Open Water, Open Minds will explore eco-therapy through open water swimming, highlighting the connection between nature and mental well-being. This multifaceted approach not only aims to build community ties but also addresses mental health concerns in a refreshing way.
Authorities are optimistic about the program’s potential to create lasting change within the community.
“This initiative represents a significant step towards inclusivity and understanding among our diverse populations,”
stated a representative from Customer Service Excellence Ireland.
As the launch unfolds, community members and stakeholders are encouraged to participate actively in the upcoming events. The first storytelling workshop is set to commence in October 2025, marking the beginning of a transformative journey for Glenties.
Stay tuned for more updates as the “Belonging Across Boundaries, Stories to Connect” program evolves and impacts the community. This is an urgent call to engage and share these important stories that matter to all.
