Edward Buggy, Kilkenny GAA Icon, Passes Away Suddenly at 74
BREAKING: Edward (Ned) Buggy, a beloved figure in Kilkenny’s GAA community, has sadly passed away at the age of 74. The news comes as a shock to many, as Ned was a prominent member of the Dicksboro GAA Club and had significant roles within the Kilkenny GAA County Board.
Ned died peacefully on October 12, 2023, surrounded by family at St Luke’s Hospital in Kilkenny City. His sudden passing has left a profound impact on his friends, family, and the entire GAA community. Known for his dedication, he served as the secretary of the Northern Board and as PRO for Kilkenny GAA, earning respect and admiration from fellow enthusiasts.
Ned is survived by his sister Teresa, partner Eva, and a wide circle of family and friends who are mourning his loss. His family has expressed their deep sorrow, remembering him fondly as a man of kindness and integrity.
The community is invited to pay their respects as Ned will repose at Shasby’s Funeral Home on October 16, 2023, from 3 PM to 7 PM. A vigil service will precede the removal to St Mary’s Cathedral for reception prayers at 7:30 PM. The Requiem Mass will take place on October 17, 2023, at 10:30 AM, and will be live-streamed at www.stmaryscathedral.ie.
Following the Mass, Ned will be laid to rest at Foulkstown Cemetery. The funeral cortege will proceed from the cathedral via Parnell Street, New Street, to the Waterford Road Roundabout, allowing the community to join in honoring his memory.
In a show of support for the family, additional parking will be available at UPMC Nowlan Park during the hours of Ned’s Reposal. Family flowers are requested, with donations welcomed for The Capuchin Friary, Kilkenny, through a donation box at the funeral home and church.
This heartfelt farewell is a reminder of the community’s deep connections and the legacy Ned leaves behind. His contributions to the GAA and the local community will always be remembered.
