Family Urges Public for Help on 27th Anniversary of Deirdre Jacob’s Disappearance

URGENT APPEAL: The family of missing woman Deirdre Jacob has launched a heartfelt appeal for information on the 27th anniversary of her disappearance. Authorities, including Gardaí, are actively investigating the case, which remains unsolved since July 28, 1998.
Deirdre was just **18 years old** when she was last seen near her home in Roseberry, Newbridge, County Kildare. At approximately **3:00 PM**, she vanished after walking into town to secure a bank draft for a college friend in London, marking a troubling milestone for her family.
CCTV footage captures vital moments of Deirdre’s last known movements. At **2:14 PM**, she was seen walking along Main Street, entering the AIB Bank shortly after. By **2:26 PM**, she queued inside Newbridge Post Office and spoke with a friend at **2:32 PM**. The final sighting of Deirdre was recorded at **2:35 PM** outside the PTSB Bank.
Despite extensive efforts, including the establishment of an incident room at Kildare Garda Station, Deirdre’s family continues to seek answers. Michael and Bernadette Jacob, Deirdre’s parents, remain in close contact with a dedicated Garda liaison officer who keeps them updated on the investigation’s developments.
In a significant turn of events on the 20th anniversary of her disappearance, An Garda Síochána reclassified the case from a missing person investigation to a murder investigation, underscoring the urgency surrounding the case.
Described as **5’3″ tall**, of slim build, with grey-green eyes and dark chin-length hair, Deirdre was last seen wearing a navy v-neck t-shirt with white trim, navy or black jeans, and blue Nike runners. She carried a distinctive black satchel bag marked with the word “CAT,” which has never been recovered.
As the investigation continues, Deirdre’s family pleads with the public: “If you or anyone you know has any information, however small, please contact the Gardaí.” The emotional weight of this appeal highlights the ongoing impact of Deirdre’s disappearance on her loved ones, who have lived with uncertainty for nearly three decades.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT: Authorities encourage anyone with potential leads to step forward, emphasizing that even the smallest piece of information could be crucial to solving this long-standing mystery. The public is reminded that the incident room remains open, and tips can be submitted directly to Kildare Garda Station.
This urgent appeal serves as a poignant reminder of the unresolved cases that continue to affect families deeply. As the investigation unfolds, the hope remains that justice for Deirdre Jacob is still possible.
