UPDATE: Fatboy Slim delivered a breathtaking finale as he closed out day two of Electric Picnic in Stradbally, Ireland, on August 31, 2023. However, it was the explosive performance by the group Kneecap that had festival-goers buzzing, making headlines with their politically charged set.

As the rain mostly cleared by the afternoon, festival vibes soared, with an estimated 50,000 attendees gathered to witness electrifying performances. Sam Fender captivated fans with his impressive live show, setting the stage for Fatboy Slim, who proved he remains a festival titan nearly four decades into his career.

Fatboy Slim, also known as Norman Cook, played an unforgettable set that had the crowd singing along to iconic dance tracks into the early hours. His performance was marked by vibrant yellow streamers cascading from the stage, a sight that will linger in the memories of attendees long after the festival ends.

Meanwhile, Kneecap, a rising force in Irish music, made a bold statement during their main stage debut. Fresh from their performance with Fontaines DC, the Belfast trio drew a massive crowd adorned in tricolour balaclavas, waving Palestinian and Irish flags. They used their platform to address pressing issues, including the ongoing conflict in Palestine and Ireland’s housing crisis.

Mo Chara, one of the group’s members, humorously referenced his legal troubles over a terrorism charge involving a Hezbollah flag, prompting chants of “Free Mo Chara” and “Free Palestine” from the audience. The group did not hold back, labeling Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a war criminal and criticizing the Irish government for its handling of the housing crisis.

For those unable to attend, TG4 will broadcast highlights from Kneecap’s set at 9:30 PM local time, ensuring fans can still experience the electrifying performance.

Looking ahead to Sunday, festival-goers are anticipating more incredible acts, including Kings of Leon and a special appearance by Dermot Kennedy alongside Noel and Mike Hogan of The Cranberries. This marks a poignant moment as they perform together for the first time since the passing of Dolores O’Riordan.

Other highlights include Orla Gartland at the 3 Sound Stage and Jazzy at the Electric Arena, with The Kooks set to close the second stage.

As the festival draws to a close, attendees will soon pack up their tents and prepare for long journeys home, reflecting on what has been one of the biggest Electric Picnics to date. Stay tuned for more updates as the final day unfolds!
