Flash Flooding Disrupts Halloween Fun in Limerick, Urgent Response Underway
UPDATE: Flash flooding has wreaked havoc in Limerick last night, October 31, disrupting Halloween festivities for countless children. Heavy downpours forced families to postpone both tricks and treats as stormy conditions caused significant localized flooding across the city and surrounding areas.
According to a statement from Limerick City and County Council, numerous roads were impacted due to the surcharging of drains and the saturation of nearby lands. Affected areas include St Joseph’s Street, Hogan Avenue, Clancy’s Strand, O’Callaghan Strand, Jetland Junction on the Ennis Road, the top end of Corrib Drive, and the New Link Road Junction. Both Adare and Kilmallock were also hit hard by the flooding.
In an official update, the Council reported, “LCCC crews were mobilized and cleared all affected drains and gullies, surface water receded, and all areas were made accessible.” However, the storm’s impact was felt deeply, with one private property in Adare experiencing internal flooding, which was cleared within a short period.
The Council has pledged to continue monitoring these locations closely due to ongoing forecasts of unsettled weather. Residents are urged to stay alert as authorities assess the situation and prepare for any further adverse conditions.
As the community comes to terms with the Halloween washout, the emotional toll on families is palpable, with many children left disappointed. With reports of continuing rain, the urgency for local authorities to manage this developing situation remains high.
Stay tuned for further updates on this weather-related disruption as officials work tirelessly to restore normalcy in Limerick.
