Former Mayor Eddie Hoare Explores Bid for Galway West Seat
Former Mayor and current Fine Gael City Councillor Eddie Hoare has confirmed he is “definitely considering” a bid for the upcoming Galway West by-election. This election follows the impending vacancy left by Catherine Connolly, the former Independent TD and current President, whose seat is expected to be contested early next year.
The announcement comes amid a growing interest in the election, with only a few candidates publicly declaring their intentions thus far. Alongside Hoare, Noel Thomas, an Independent Ireland Councillor, and former Green Party Councillor Niall Murphy have also confirmed their candidacies.
During an interview on Galway Talks, Hoare addressed the recent announcement of multi-billion euro infrastructure projects in Galway, which could have significant implications for the region’s development. He emphasized the importance of strong representation for Galway West as these projects progress.
As the political landscape continues to evolve, the by-election is likely to attract further candidates and public interest. Hoare’s potential candidacy adds an exciting dimension to the upcoming election, which is expected to draw significant attention from both constituents and political observers alike.
In the coming weeks, more candidates may emerge, shaping the race for Galway West. With the election anticipated in early 2024, the dynamics of the campaign will likely intensify as candidates position themselves to win over voters.
