FortGrange Scouts Host Special Night, Celebrate Youth Achievements
UPDATE: The 15th Kilkenny FortGrange Scout Group hosted a special open night in Danesfort to celebrate local youth and showcase the vibrant community spirit of scouting. This event, part of the national initiative Oiche na hÓige, took place earlier today, highlighting the positive contributions of youth organizations across Ireland.
The evening featured an impressive presentation honoring the local Venture group, comprising eight talented members aged 15 to 17 who recently secured second place in the prestigious Venture Sword competition, equivalent to an All-Ireland title. This recognition underscores the hard work and dedication of youth members who are making waves in their community.
Parents, friends, and community members flocked to the event to witness firsthand the impactful activities of the FortGrange Scouts. The night served as an opportunity to welcome new members through an emotional Investiture Ceremony, solidifying their commitment to the scouting ethos.
Organizers expressed gratitude for the support from the local KCETB, which helped cover some of the event’s costs. With approximately 65 youth members and 16 adult volunteers, the FortGrange group is a testament to the power of community engagement, providing diverse activities for youth of all ages.
Since its establishment in 2012, the FortGrange group has been pivotal in fostering leadership and teamwork among young people in the Danesfort and Cuffesgrange areas. The group caters to a wide age range, from Beavers aged six to eight, to Rovers aged 18 to 26, ensuring inclusivity for all abilities.
This open night not only showcased the successes of the FortGrange Scouts but also highlighted their ongoing commitment to community service, including litter picks, assisting with local events, and participating in the St. Patrick’s Day parade.
As the local scouting tradition continues to thrive, the FortGrange group invites the community to engage with their activities and support the development of future leaders. The buzz from tonight’s event is expected to resonate well beyond Danesfort, inspiring other youth organizations to showcase their contributions as well.
