Four Arrested Following €4.4 Million Drug Seizure in Dublin
Four men are currently in custody following a substantial drug seizure valued at over €4 million during a coordinated operation by law enforcement in Ireland. The operation, which occurred on March 15, 2024, involved the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau along with Revenue’s Customs Service.
During the operation, authorities seized 220 kilograms of herbal cannabis, estimated to be worth approximately €4.4 million. A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána confirmed that an additional 10.5 kilograms of cannabis, valued at around €210,000, along with €10,000 in cash, was confiscated in subsequent searches.
The searches took place in locations across South Dublin and County Kildare. The four men, all in their 30s, were arrested and are being held in Garda stations in both Dublin and Kildare. They are detained under the provisions of Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007, allowing for a maximum detention period of seven days without charge, pending court orders.
The suspected illegal substances will undergo forensic examination and analysis as investigations continue. Authorities are treating this operation as a significant blow to organized drug trafficking in the region.
Ongoing inquiries aim to uncover further details about the drug network involved. The operation highlights the collaboration between various law enforcement agencies in tackling organized crime and drug-related issues in Ireland.
