Free Lingaun Loop Bus Service Launches for Summer Adventures

UPDATE: The brand new Lingaun Loop Bus Service has officially launched, providing free transport for hiking and walking enthusiasts in South Kilkenny and South Tipperary. This pilot initiative is already gaining traction among locals and tourists alike, as it connects breathtaking landscapes and historical sites across a stunning 50 km loop.
The service operates five times a day, seven days a week, making it easier than ever to explore the natural beauty and rich heritage of the region. Passengers can enjoy stops at 13 different locations, including the renowned Sliabh na mBan, a mountain steeped in legend and offering dramatic views.
With National Heritage Week approaching from August 16 to 25, interest in the Lingaun Loop is expected to surge. Travelers can hop off the bus to experience a variety of outdoor activities, from hiking to leisurely walks along the river. Each stop provides unique experiences, from the scenic Suir Blueway in Kilsheelan to the tranquil lakeside tearooms in Windgap.
Declan Rice, CEO of the Kilkenny LEADER Partnership, noted the initiative is attracting a diverse mix of riders. “We’ve received fantastic feedback from both locals and visitors from abroad,” he stated. “This service allows everyone to explore hidden gems without the stress of driving.”
In addition to outdoor adventures, the Lingaun Loop takes passengers near significant historical landmarks, including Knockroe Passage Tomb, Oromonde Castle, and the iconic high crosses at Killamery, Ahenny, and Kilkieran. History buffs can also visit Kilcash Castle and Carrick-On-Suir Castle.
Service users are encouraged to provide feedback through a questionnaire during the months of July, August, and September. The information collected will help assess the feasibility of making the Lingaun Loop a permanent fixture in the region.
This innovative transport initiative not only facilitates access to stunning landscapes but also promotes community engagement and appreciation for local heritage. As more people take advantage of this free service, it stands as a testament to the beauty and culture waiting to be discovered in the Lingaun Valley.
For those eager to explore, the Lingaun Loop is a must-try this summer. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, there’s never been a better time to experience the richness of South Kilkenny and South Tipperary. Don’t miss out on this opportunity—plan your adventure today!
