Garda Arrests Two in Urgent €90,000 Money Laundering Probe

UPDATE: Two individuals have been arrested in Dublin amid a *developing* money laundering investigation that has uncovered over €90,000 in cash and multiple bank cards linked to foreign accounts. The arrests were made by the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau (GNECB) following *urgent* intelligence regarding significant ATM withdrawals across Dublin and Cork.
The operation intensified on September 13, when Gardaí located and searched a vehicle in the Lucan area of Dublin. During this search, authorities recovered a substantial amount of cash and numerous bank cards associated with accounts in Poland and Norway.
A man in his early 30s was arrested under Section 72 of the Criminal Justice Act 2006, while a woman in her mid-30s was taken into custody at a residence in Dublin under the same legislation. Both are currently held at a Garda Station in the Dublin Region and are detained under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007.
Following these developments, Gardaí conducted a further search at a residence in Cork, where they seized additional cash, foreign currency, false identification documents, bank cards, and mobile phones. This comprehensive operation highlights the ongoing efforts to combat financial crime and its international implications.
Authorities are now collaborating with international law enforcement agencies through Europol to investigate the nexus of bank accounts linked to the suspects in Poland and Norway. The investigation is ongoing, and both individuals remain in custody as Gardaí work to unravel the extent of this money laundering scheme.
As the situation develops, updates will be provided, emphasizing the significant impact of these operations on financial crime in Ireland. This urgent investigation underscores the critical need for vigilance against illicit financial activities. Stay tuned for further updates.
