Glenveagh National Park Closed Indefinitely After Storm Amy
URGENT UPDATE: Glenveagh National Park is officially closed to the public indefinitely following the destructive impact of Storm Amy. In a statement released earlier today, park officials confirmed that the closure is necessary due to significant damage caused by the severe weather.
The park’s management expressed their regret, stating,
“Due to the damage caused by Storm Amy, Glenveagh National Park will remain closed until further notice. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and will give an update once the park is ready to open.”
This closure comes as a repeat event, with the park previously shutting down after Storm Eowyn in January, when severe weather also took a toll on the natural landscape.
During the earlier closure, the storm resulted in the felling of the tallest tree on the grounds of Glenveagh Castle along with hundreds of other mature trees. The aftermath required weeks of cleanup to ensure visitor safety, as fallen branches and debris posed risks in visitor areas.
As of now, officials have not provided a timeline for when the park will reopen. The local community and nature enthusiasts are advised to stay tuned for further updates as the park assesses the full extent of the damage caused by Storm Amy.
This closure not only impacts tourists but also the local ecosystem, which relies on the park’s maintenance and visitor engagement. Keep an eye on official announcements for the latest developments regarding Glenveagh National Park’s status.
