Going for Gold 2025 Finalists Revealed: Community Efforts Shine
URGENT UPDATE: The finalists for the Going for Gold 2025 competition have just been revealed, showcasing the incredible spirit of community across Limerick! Following a highly competitive online public vote, the five finalists are Castleconnell Tidy Towns, Kilmallock Tidy Towns, Kilmeedy Tidy Towns, Athea Tidy Towns, and Bulgaden Tidy Towns.
The winners will be announced on October 23, 2025, during a prestigious ceremony at the Castletroy Park Hotel. In addition to the public vote, judges will also select wildcards to join the finalists, with those selections to be announced next month on Live95.
Community groups are already celebrating their achievements. Bulgaden Tidy Towns expressed heartfelt gratitude to their supporters, stating, “We couldn’t have done it without your support, time, and votes.” Similarly, Kilmeedy Tidy Towns shared their excitement, calling it “truly delightful” to be shortlisted alongside such esteemed company. “Every Tidy Towns group in the county deserves to be here,” they added, highlighting the inspiring dedication of volunteers throughout Limerick.
The Going for Gold initiative, now in its 15th year, emphasizes civic pride, environmental responsibility, and community improvement. Funded by Limerick City and County Council in partnership with the JP McManus Charitable Foundation, the competition aims to create cleaner and greener neighborhoods across Limerick.
The final ceremony will celebrate community achievements and announce increased funding and special awards. Last year, Patrickswell was the overall winner, recognized for their innovative fairy garden and mini-library created from upcycled materials. This year marks their 25th anniversary as a Tidy Towns group.
The Going for Gold campaign has captured the imagination of residents, schools, and groups across Limerick since its inception in 2012, fostering a shared passion for a more sustainable future. With participation from all ages, the initiative has become a cornerstone of community engagement and environmental stewardship.
Stay tuned as we bring you more updates, including the announcement of the judges’ wildcards next month. The competition is heating up, and the community spirit is thriving—every vote counts in this celebration of collective effort!
