Heavy Rain and Flooding Threaten Christmas Shopping Plans Tomorrow
URGENT UPDATE: Heavy rain and flooding are set to drastically impact Christmas shopping plans across the country tomorrow, December 7, 2025. Forecasts predict over 10mm of rain, particularly in the Northeast, starting early Sunday and continuing well into the afternoon.
Officials warn shoppers in Dublin and surrounding areas to prepare for downpours that will likely dampen the festive spirit. Alan O’Reilly of Carlow Weather confirms that a wet start is expected, with most regions experiencing significant rainfall.
The rain is predicted to begin early in the morning, with over 5mm expected in many areas, escalating to over 10mm in parts of the Northeast. The main band of rain is anticipated to clear to the east by around 3 PM, but until then, shoppers should proceed with caution.
In addition to the rain, Met Éireann is monitoring the situation closely, as potential storm conditions are forecasted for next week. While no confirmation has been issued yet, strong winds and persistent rain are likely to continue affecting travel and outdoor plans.
Drivers are urged to exercise extreme caution on the roads, as wet conditions can lead to hazardous driving situations. Authorities emphasize the importance of slowing down and remaining vigilant while navigating through affected areas.
As the holiday shopping season ramps up, the impending weather poses a significant challenge for retailers and consumers alike. Shoppers are advised to stay updated on weather developments to ensure their safety and make the most of their holiday shopping experience.
Stay tuned for more updates as the situation unfolds.
