Homelessness in North West Declines Slightly to 177 Individuals
UPDATE: New figures from the Department of Housing reveal a slight decrease in homelessness in the North West. As of the end of October 2025, there are now 177 adults without a home, down from 187 in September. This marginal decline comes amidst a national rise in homelessness.
In Donegal, the situation is slightly improved, with 50 individuals reported as homeless, a decrease of six from last month. However, the number of families experiencing homelessness remains steady, with 35 families registered, and the number of dependent children in need of accommodation has decreased by four, totaling 60 children.
Despite this localized decrease, the national picture is concerning. Overall, 16,766 people were registered as homeless across the country in October, which is an increase of 152 individuals from September. This contrast highlights the ongoing challenges faced by many communities.
The slight improvement in the North West offers a glimmer of hope, but advocates urge that more needs to be done to address the root causes of homelessness. The community and local authorities are called upon to continue their efforts to support vulnerable populations.
As we move forward, it is crucial to monitor these trends closely and advocate for policies that provide meaningful assistance. The focus will now turn to whether this downward trend in the North West will continue in the coming months or if national figures will further escalate. Residents and officials alike are encouraged to engage in discussions about solutions to this pressing issue.
Stay tuned for further updates on homelessness trends and community support initiatives as this situation develops.
