Households Urged to Change Kettle Use to Save on Energy Bills

URGENT UPDATE: Households across Europe are facing skyrocketing energy bills, with the average annual cost expected to hit €2,880. As energy prices continue to rise, experts are revealing that many families are wasting money by boiling water incorrectly. The latest advice from Grant Store highlights how simple changes can save hundreds of euros annually.
Experts confirm that switching to more fuel-efficient appliances is key to cutting costs. “The most effective way to cut bills is to reduce usage without sacrificing comfort,” said an energy expert from Grant Store. This shift can start with something as basic as how you boil water.
Surprisingly, boiling water on a gas hob can be more economical than using an electric kettle, although it’s less convenient. For those using kettles, it’s crucial to only boil what you need to avoid wasting energy. Utilizing a lid on your pan while boiling can enhance efficiency, making a noticeable dent in your energy consumption.
In addition to kettle usage, the expert stresses the benefits of using a microwave over a hob for heating food. “A microwave uses less energy and delivers faster results, especially for smaller portions,” they explained. This method not only saves energy but also helps families avoid unnecessary costs.
Tumble dryers are another major household energy drain, costing the average user €106 per year. As of October, these costs are projected to rise. The expert recommends alternatives like heated clothes airers, which use as little as 16 cents per hour and can be purchased for under €34. This change can drastically reduce reliance on energy-intensive dryers.
While plug-in electric heaters might seem like a quick solution for warmth, they can accumulate costs of up to €433 annually if used frequently. “It’s usually more cost-effective to use your central heating with thermostatic radiator valves,” the expert advised, emphasizing the importance of keeping radiators on a low setting in unused rooms to prevent cold spots and potential pipe damage.
Beyond appliance swaps, the energy expert encourages households to adopt everyday changes that can significantly impact energy consumption. “Many underestimate how much of a difference these small changes can make when added together,” they said.
For those struggling with rising costs, support schemes may be available. “If you’re concerned about energy costs, speak to your supplier and check what support is available,” the expert added, noting that there may be tailored assistance or tariffs you could qualify for.
These energy-saving tips are not just about cutting costs; they are about making smarter choices in daily life. With energy prices showing no signs of decreasing, implementing these strategies could provide significant relief for families during these challenging times.
Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to monitor the financial impact of rising energy costs on households across Europe.
