HSE Urges Donegal Residents to Get Free Flu Vaccination NOW
UPDATE: The Health Service Executive (HSE) is urgently urging eligible individuals in Donegal to take advantage of free flu vaccinations as influenza cases surge across Ireland. Just reported, hospital admissions for flu have risen significantly over the past week, with the most vulnerable group, adults aged 65 years and older, facing the highest risk.
As of November 6, 2025, the HSE is offering free flu shots at participating GP clinics, pharmacies, and community health centers throughout Donegal. Additionally, HSE vaccination teams will provide vaccines to residents in nursing homes and housebound patients, ensuring that those most at risk are protected.
For families, the HSE also offers a free, safe, and painless nasal spray flu vaccine for all children aged 2 to 17 years. This initiative aims to safeguard the health of young ones during this critical flu season.
Who should get the free flu vaccine? The HSE strongly recommends and provides the vaccine for:
– Everyone aged 60 years and older
– Individuals with underlying medical conditions
– Healthcare workers, including students in healthcare and social care
– All children aged 2-17 years
– Pregnant women at any stage of pregnancy
– Carers and household contacts of at-risk individuals
– Residents of nursing homes and long-stay facilities
– Those with regular close contact with poultry, waterfowl, or pigs
To mitigate the spread of infection, the HSE emphasizes essential preventive measures: stay home if unwell, maintain regular handwashing, cover coughs and sneezes, and ensure good ventilation in indoor spaces. Residents are encouraged to check on vulnerable family, friends, and neighbors during this busy period.
If anyone in your family falls ill, visit the HSE website for guidance on managing symptoms and determining when to seek medical assistance: www.hse.ie/flu.
This urgent call to action comes as the flu season intensifies, highlighting the importance of vaccination and proactive health measures. Protect yourself and your loved ones—get vaccinated today!
