Inis Mór Hosts First-Ever Emergency Services Open Day Tomorrow
UPDATE: Inis Mór is set to make history tomorrow with its inaugural Emergency Services Open Day, an event that promises to showcase the island’s first responders and their vital roles. This event is critical as the three Aran Islands welcome up to 3,000 tourists daily during the summer months, creating a unique challenge for emergency services.
Beginning at 10:00 AM on July 21, 2023, the open day will feature live demonstrations from Rescue 115, the Aran Islands lifeboat, and Aran Fire and Rescue. Attendees can expect thrilling displays of emergency response techniques and equipment that serve as a lifeline for residents and visitors alike.
The event will also mark a historic occasion with the participation of the Garda Air Support Unit, which will conduct a flyby and landing, enhancing the excitement of the day. Perhaps most notably, the Garda Mounted Unit will be present, marking the first time since 1911 that a police officer on horseback has graced Inis Mór, adding a unique touch to this groundbreaking event.
This open day not only aims to educate the public about emergency preparedness but also strengthens community ties and highlights the importance of local services in safeguarding lives during peak tourist seasons.
