James Norton Reveals Hard Work Behind Dublin Accent in House of Guinness
BREAKING: English actor James Norton has confirmed he “worked hard” to master his Dublin accent for his role in the highly anticipated series House of Guinness, premiering on Netflix tomorrow. The show, created by the minds behind Peaky Blinders, explores the profound impact of Benjamin Guinness’s death in the 1800s on his family and the thriving Guinness empire.
Norton portrays Sean Rafferty, the foreman at the Guinness brewery, and expressed the importance of getting the accent correct, acknowledging the pride of the Irish people. He stated, “I was aware that many actors have gotten it wrong, and the Irish are a proud bunch so if you get it wrong, you hear about it.” His dedication to the craft was supported by fellow cast members, reinforcing the authenticity of the portrayal.
This eight-episode series not only reimagines a pivotal moment in history but also highlights the Guinness family’s significant contributions to Dublin’s architecture and their philanthropic efforts. Norton emphasized, “It was both eye-opening and an incredibly thrilling journey to delve into all of that.”
The cast includes notable talents like Fionn O’Shea, Anthony Boyle, and Jack Gleeson, who is best known for his role as Joffrey Baratheon in Game of Thrones. Boyle, who takes on the role of the eldest son destined to inherit the brewery, draws inspiration from literary icon Oscar Wilde for his character, adding depth to the narrative.
Gleeson expressed pride in showcasing Irish culture on a global platform, noting the inclusion of modern Irish artists like Kneecap and Fontaines DC in the show’s soundtrack. As the series unfolds, it promises to explore the far-reaching implications of Benjamin Guinness’s death, not only for his family but also for the Dublin community intertwined with the expanding Guinness legacy.
Creator Steven Knight remarked on the seamless integration of Irish culture into the series, stating, “It’s not an effort to force it in, it’s already there.” Knight also expressed surprise that no one had previously taken on the challenge of depicting the Guinness family’s remarkable history, calling their story “dynamite.”
As excitement builds for the show’s release, fans eagerly await the chance to witness the dramatic retelling of a family that shaped a nation. The series is set to debut on October 12, 2023, and is expected to attract viewers eager to experience the blend of history, culture, and legacy within the framework of the Guinness dynasty.
Stay tuned for more updates and insights as House of Guinness makes its mark on Netflix. This series promises to be not just a visual spectacle but also a deep dive into the historical roots of one of the world’s most iconic brands.
