John McIvor Takes Charge as New Manager of Donegal Music Education Partnership
URGENT UPDATE: The Donegal Education and Training Board has officially appointed John McIvor as the new manager of the Donegal Music Education Partnership (DMEP), effective immediately. This decision follows the departure of former manager Martin McGinley, who served for nine years.
Based in Letterkenny, McIvor’s extensive experience includes roles as a project administrator with DMEP and a background as a music agent, promoter, and tour manager for various international artists in the UK. His appointment marks a significant step towards enhancing music education across County Donegal.
McIvor expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “I am delighted to take up the role of Music Development Manager. Music has the power to enrich lives and strengthen communities throughout Donegal.” He aims to collaborate with local partners, schools, and young people to ensure that music education remains both accessible and inspiring.
The DMEP is dedicated to providing affordable music tuition and resources throughout Donegal, offering instrument hire and organizing workshops, ensembles, and choirs. Their programs include the Donegal Junior String Orchestra, Donegal Chamber Orchestra, and Donegal Youth Orchestra, fostering both musical and social skills among participants.
Dr. Martin Gormley, Director of Schools with Donegal ETB, congratulated McIvor, emphasizing his passion and creativity. “I am confident that under his leadership, our music programs will continue to grow and inspire young people and communities across Donegal,” he stated.
As the DMEP transitions to new leadership, local residents and aspiring musicians can expect exciting developments. The partnership is committed to making music education a vital part of life in Donegal, creating lasting impacts for students and communities alike.
