The exciting announcement was made just before 11:30 PM on Tuesday night, as Katelyn was presented with her sash by 2024 Rose of Tralee Kelly O’Grady to thunderous applause from the crowd.
The 20-year-old from Ballyouskill, located on the Laois/Kilkenny border, has not only claimed the crown but also stands out as an apprentice electrician, chairperson of the North Kilkenny Macra club, and a two-time county camogie champion. Katelyn wowed judges with her vibrant personality and impressive jiving skills, securing her place as the 65th International Rose of Tralee.
In her emotional interview with Kathryn Thomas, Katelyn shared her joy, stating, “I don’t think there’s anything like the Rose of Tralee.” Following her triumph, she was celebrated in the streets of Tralee, where thousands gathered for Midnight Madness and a spectacular fireworks display.
As the newly crowned Rose, Katelyn is set for a whirlwind year filled with responsibilities and exciting rewards. The prize package includes a generous €25,000 travel bursary, allowing her to represent the Rose of Tralee International Festival globally. Previous winners have used the bursary for remarkable travels, including trips to New Zealand and Chicago.
Additionally, Katelyn will receive a new Kia Niro plug-in hybrid SUV, valued at over €40,000, which she will have to return at the end of her reign. She will also enjoy an all-expenses-paid week-long trip around Kerry, with visits to iconic locations like Killarney and Dingle, courtesy of Kerry County Council. Every time she visits Tralee, Katelyn will benefit from complimentary accommodation at the Meadowlands Hotel and free hair styling by Brush ‘N’ Blush.
Her role as the Rose includes serving as an ambassador for the festival, representing Irish culture both locally and internationally. Katelyn will participate in various events such as parades, galas, and community gatherings, promoting Irish heritage and fostering connections with diverse communities.
