Kilkenny Club Hurling: Thrilling Knockout Rounds Unfold NOW
UPDATE: The Kilkenny club hurling championships have kicked off their knockout stages, with intense competition driving teams to secure their spots in the quarter-finals. Just moments ago, thrilling matches unfolded across multiple venues, showcasing the fierce spirit of local clubs.
In the highly anticipated St Canice’s Credit Union Senior Hurling Championship, both Dicksboro and Clara managed to avoid the relegation finals. At Canon Kearns Park, Clara triumphed over a determined Lisdowney in a nail-biting match, finishing with a score of 2-27 to 3-21 after extra time. This dramatic victory ensures Clara’s place in the top tier moving forward.
Meanwhile, at Páirc Lachtain, Dicksboro celebrated as they fended off a late comeback from Graigue Ballycallan, claiming victory with a scoreline of 2-15 to 1-14. This result secures Dicksboro’s status in the senior ranks for the next season, while Graigue Ballycallan now faces a relegation battle against Lisdowney in three weeks.
In other senior division action, the Shamrocks dominated Erin’s Own with a decisive win, outscoring them 1-32 to 2-8. Additionally, an outstanding hat-trick from Adam Croke led Mooncoin to a commanding 6-23 to 1-15 victory over southern rivals Rower Inistioge.
The intermediate level also saw crucial matches that will affect future standings. The Blacks & Whites secured their status for a fourth consecutive year with a close 0-17 to 1-11 win, while the Fenians are set to face the loser of the upcoming match between St Lachtains and St Martin’s, which is scheduled for Sunday at 12 PM.
Excitingly, the finals for the Michael Lyng Motors Hyundai Intermediate Hurling League and Shield were also held at UPMC Nowlan Park. In the shield final, Dunnamaggin claimed victory over Young Irelands with a score of 0-17 to 1-9. In the league final, James Stephens maintained their unbeaten streak, defeating Danesfort 1-23 to 0-17, setting a strong championship precedent.
In the JJ Kavanagh Junior Hurling League, Barrow Rangers demonstrated their prowess with a commanding win against Cloneen, finishing at 3-18 to 0-16.
