Kilkenny Community Mourns John Donovan: A Beloved Local Figure

URGENT UPDATE: The Kilkenny community is in mourning following the passing of beloved local figure, John Donovan, who died on Wednesday evening. Known for his warmth and vibrant spirit, Donovan is deeply regretted by family, friends, and the wider community.
Tributes have poured in for Donovan, a familiar face in both Callan and Kilkenny City. He leaves behind his sisters Tracey and Siobhán, brother Jessie, and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and a large circle of friends, especially those from John Locke’s GAA Club.
Over the past few months, Donovan faced significant health challenges, during which he received overwhelming support from the community. Known widely in GAA circles, his absence will be profoundly felt, especially among the members of his native club, where he was a passionate supporter.
“A true genuine gentleman, his chats brightened up our day without fail,” wrote one local. “A bed in heaven for you, John.” Another added, “John will be missed as a welcoming face around Kilkenny, always ready for a chat about hurling.”
FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS: Donovan will be reposing at Molloy’s Funeral Home in Callan on Friday, September 26, from 4 PM, concluding with Rosary and Vigil Prayers at 7 PM. Funeral Prayers will follow on Saturday, September 27, at 10:15 AM, leading to the Church of the Assumption for a Requiem Mass at 11 AM. He will be laid to rest in Kilbride Cemetery.
The Requiem Mass will be streamed live via http://churchmedia.ie (Callan Parish). The Donovan family appreciates messages of sympathy and support, which can be left in the condolence section below.
This is a developing story as the community comes together to honor a cherished member. Stay tuned for more updates as they unfold.
