Kilkenny Community Rallies for Fran’s Kickathon Charity Effort
Fran Grincell’s annual Kickathon has garnered overwhelming support from the Kilkenny community as he raises funds for the local charity, Cois Nore. The event, which spans over 12 nights, culminates this Friday evening, with Fran, known as ‘Franaldo’, kicking a ball against a wall outside Community Radio Kilkenny. Generous donations have poured in both in-person and via the event’s GoFundMe page.
Throughout the Kickathon, local soccer teams from the Kilkenny & District League have participated, showcasing their skills while contributing to the cause. The club Evergreen praised the initiative, calling it a “fantastic endeavour” and highlighting the importance of the funds raised. “His incredible target is €35,000, and he is almost there but needs that final push,” they noted.
As of now, Fran has successfully raised €33,390, inching closer to his goal. With just hours remaining until the event concludes, the community is encouraged to contribute. Fran emphasized the responsibility to support those in need, stating, “If you’re in a position to help somebody, the onus is on you to do something.”
The effort has been a massive undertaking for Fran and his family, who have worked tirelessly to secure donations. “How do I feel? I’m wrecked, I get tired but I have to do it because I owe it,” he admitted. When reflecting on his favorite part of the 12-night marathon, Fran expressed gratitude for the community’s support, saying, “I love kicking the ball; I’d kick a ball all day if I could.”
The final night of the Kickathon promises to be a significant event, with the local community coming together to support Fran and Cois Nore. Contributions can be made either in person at the event or through the designated donation page online. As the full-time whistle approaches, the hope is to surpass the €35,000 target, making a meaningful impact on the local charity and those it serves.
