Kilkenny Graduate Soars to Dream Job with Emirates in Dubai

UPDATE: Éabha Sloyan, a graduate from NUIG, is living her dream as a cabin crew member for Emirates, the world’s largest international airline, based in Dubai. Éabha’s transformative journey has taken her from Kilkenny to the skies, and she is now sharing her exhilarating experiences working for the airline that connects over 140 destinations globally.
In just a year and a half, Éabha has traveled to 42 countries, including breathtaking locations like Bali, Rio de Janeiro, and Tokyo. “This job has opened up a world of adventure for me,” she stated, emphasizing the incredible opportunities that come with being part of Emirates.
Éabha’s sister, Doireann Sloyan, inspired by Éabha’s adventures, has left her corporate job to join Emirates’ cabin crew training in Dubai. “It’s amazing to see my sister pursuing her passions, and I can’t wait to join her in this dynamic environment,” Doireann shared.
The Sloyan family, who grew up in Kilkenny City, are avid travelers themselves. Parents Tom and Mary Sloyan are thrilled about the perks of discounted flights, allowing them to explore the world alongside their daughters.
Emirates, which launched its first flight from Ireland in January 2012, now operates two daily flights from Dublin to Dubai. The airline boasts an impressive fleet of A380s and Boeing 777s, solidifying its status as a global leader in air travel.
Éabha describes Dubai as a “cosmopolitan, lively, and multicultural city,” perfect for both living and working. “There is always something to do,” she remarked, highlighting the city’s vibrant culture, from amusement parks to exquisite dining experiences.
While the training process is rigorous, lasting about seven and a half weeks, Éabha believes it equips crew members with essential skills in safety, medical response, and customer service. “It’s intense, but it prepares you for everything you might face in the skies,” she explained.
Éabha also recently represented Emirates at a rugby match in Johannesburg as part of the airline’s business promotion team. “The atmosphere was electric, and it was an honor to host guests in the Emirates corporate box,” she commented.
For those considering a career with Emirates, Éabha advises, “Seize the opportunity. It’s a chance to meet extraordinary people and explore new places.” Emirates regularly holds recruitment days across Ireland, making it accessible for aspiring cabin crew members.
Despite the glamour of her job, Éabha admits to missing home, especially her family and her 96-year-old Grandfather in Kilkenny. “I feel fortunate to have such a close family, and I’m excited to return home for Christmas this year,” she revealed.
Éabha’s journey is not just about travel; it’s about following dreams and inspiring others. Her story resonates with many young professionals seeking adventure and fulfillment in their careers.
As Éabha continues to fly high, her experiences offer a glimpse into the exciting life of cabin crew with Emirates. Keep an eye on her journey and consider what a career in aviation could mean for you!
