Kilkenny Lions Launch Urgent Christmas Hamper Appeal for 2025

UPDATE: The Kilkenny Lions Club has officially launched their 2025 Spirit of Christmas Hamper Appeal at the Newpark Hotel, an event that promises to make a significant impact on the local community this holiday season. Mayor John Coonan emphasized the importance of community spirit during the launch, saying, “The Christmas season is a time of giving, and I urge everyone to support this wonderful cause.”
This annual appeal, which has been a cherished tradition for 33 years, aims to raise over €25,000 for local charities, including the St Vincent de Paul Society and Amber Women’s Refuge Centre. Lions President Maurice Regan announced the appeal in partnership with KCLR and the Kilkenny People, reflecting on the impressive legacy of the initiative that has raised nearly €1 million since its inception in 2002.
The launch event, held last week, featured special guest and local hero Brian Cody, who praised the Lions Club’s dedication to the community. “We owe a debt of gratitude to the volunteers in the Lions Club and all the volunteers in our local organizations,” he noted. His remarks highlight the unwavering generosity of Kilkenny’s residents, who have supported this appeal year after year.
The appeal is structured into two sections: a General Auction and a Farm Auction, with items donated by over 200 local businesses. The auctions will be broadcast live on KCLR96FM, making it easier for the community to participate and contribute. The Farm Auction is scheduled for November 27 and December 4, while the General Auction will run from December 2 to December 2.
In addition to the auctions, the Lions Club is planning a Schools Christmas concert on December 11 and an annual street collection on December 13. Regan expressed his confidence in the appeal’s success, attributing it to the relentless support from the community, business partners, and fellow Lions Club members who dedicate their time and resources.
As the holiday season approaches, the urgency for community involvement in this appeal cannot be overstated. The Kilkenny Lions Club is counting on local residents to step up and help those in need, ensuring that the spirit of giving shines brightly this Christmas.
Stay tuned for more updates on the success of the Spirit of Christmas Hamper Appeal and how you can contribute to making a difference in Kilkenny this holiday season.
